HAZ Green Certification

The HAZ sustainability certification for every member hotel, in four levels, each earned with evidence. Participation and standard Secretariat support are included in the annual fee.

How to join

  1. Apply

    Complete the hotel application online and select your membership fee.

  2. Find two proposers

    Ask two HAZ member hotels to propose your hotel. Name them in the application.

  3. Hear from the Chairman

    Your application goes directly to the Executive Chairman at chairman@haz.or.tz, for a personal, timely reply.

Questions hotels ask

Who can join HAZ?

Hotels operating in Zanzibar join as Hotel Members. Suppliers, professional advisers and service providers join as Affiliate Members. Organisations that want to support HAZ events and programmes can become Corporate Sponsors.

How much does membership cost?

Hotel fees are set per membership year by number of rooms and rate band, from USD 250 for hotels of 5 to 20 rooms with rates below USD 150. Use the calculator above to find your fee.

Does HAZ membership count for hotel licensing?

Yes. The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) requires every hotel to show evidence of association membership before a hotel licence is issued. HAZ membership meets this requirement.

Is HAZ Green Certification included?

Yes. HAZ Green Certification, the HAZ sustainability certification, is mandatory for every Hotel Member. Participation and standard Secretariat support are included in the annual membership fee, and each hotel appoints a HAZ Green Champion.

Does membership mean discounts from suppliers?

HAZ creates value by organising hotels and their partners around shared goals, not by promising blanket discounts. Where a negotiated term exists, we name the partner, the term and who qualifies.
